CARMEL MEADOWS, Monterey County — October 29, 2026. A public volunteer opportunity is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at Carmel River State Beach. California State Parks’ Natural Resources Volunteer Program invites area residents to help protect the beach and its sensitive habitat through practical restoration and stewardship work. The November session is listed on the state’s public volunteer calendar.
A neighborhood meeting point near Ribera Road
The Monterey District’s standing schedule identifies southern Carmel River State Beach near the intersection of Ribera Road and Cuesta Way in Carmel Meadows as a customary gathering area. The volunteer sign-up page cautions that the precise meeting point can vary; participants should therefore request the November location when they RSVP rather than rely on a map pin from a previous month. This is a short walk from a real Carmel Meadows residential access area, not a meeting at the main Carmelo Street parking lot by default.
What volunteers may do
State Parks says tasks vary by season and conditions. They can include pulling invasive plants, watering or planting native species, seed collection and removing litter. No single task or particular section of dune habitat is guaranteed for November 14. The state notes that tools, gloves and training are provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring water, snacks, sun protection and suitable clothes. Restrooms are not easy to access at the southern meeting area.
